Volunteer in Algarve: Experience Sustainable Farming

Experience Sustainable Farming & Winemaking (Portugal)

Nestled in the heart of the Algarve, Morgado do Quintão is a historic estate with a legacy spanning over 300 years. As the largest organic vineyard project in the region, we are dedicated to preserving and revitalising indigenous Portuguese grape varieties, such as Negra Mole and Crato Branco. Those who volunteer in Algarve with us will not only gain hands-on experience in sustainable viticulture but also become part of a welcoming community that values regeneration, tradition, and environmental stewardship.

Our mission extends beyond winemaking, fostering a deep connection with the land while promoting local sustainability and ecological balance.

Volunteer in Algarve: Tasks & Roles

Daily tasks at Morgado do Quintão vary with the seasons, offering volunteers the opportunity to engage in a wide range of agricultural activities. Depending on the time of year, you may assist with vineyard maintenance, including pruning, harvesting, and soil care. Other tasks involve seasonal planting, composting, and improving soil health to support our long-term sustainability goals. Volunteers also help with integrating and caring for animals, ensuring their presence enhances the ecosystem.

In addition to agricultural work, you may take part in preparing products for wine tourism and gastronomy events, gaining insight into how our organic produce is shared with visitors. We are passionate about regenerative agriculture and organic practices, and volunteers will have the chance to learn how these techniques work in harmony with the Algarve’s unique climate and landscape. Our team is dedicated to providing guidance, allowing volunteers to develop practical skills that balance tradition with modern sustainable approaches.

Volunteer in Algarve: Living & Getting There

Volunteers are accommodated in comfortable rooms within the estate, with access to shared kitchen facilities. During the summer months, there is also the option to stay in glamping tents, offering a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in nature while still enjoying essential amenities.

Meals are an important part of the communal experience at Morgado do Quintão. Lunch and dinner are shared gatherings, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. While we love preparing traditional regional dishes, we also enjoy experimenting with international flavours. Volunteers are welcome to contribute in the kitchen and introduce recipes from their own cultures, making mealtimes a true exchange of experiences.

The nearest international airport is Faro (FAO). From Faro, you can take a train or bus to Lagoa or Portimão. From either of these locations, it’s just a short journey to the estate via Uber or taxi. Morgado do Quintão is conveniently located just three kilometres from both Silves and Lagoa, making it easily accessible. Simply search for “Morgado do Quintão” on Google Maps to find your way.

Volunteer in Algarve: What Else

We are passionate about creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where volunteers feel valued and inspired. At Morgado do Quintão, you will be part of a dedicated team led by Joaquim, a skilled viticulturist eager to share his knowledge. Volunteers are encouraged to ask questions, share their own insights, and immerse themselves in the learning process.

Beyond the daily tasks, the estate offers a chance to connect with nature, experience the rhythms of farm life, and contribute to a meaningful sustainability project. We see volunteering as a two-way exchange, where your efforts are appreciated, and you leave with new skills, friendships, and unforgettable experiences. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out—we look forward to welcoming you to our community at Morgado do Quintão!
