Join us at our animal sanctuary in Greece, where your efforts will transform the lives of neglected and stray animals. At our modern shelter in Kouvaras, you’ll work hands-on with cats and dogs, providing essential care, including feeding, cleaning, medical attention, and socialising. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable experience in animal welfare.
At Let’s Be S.M.A.R.T., we house 60 cats and 4 dogs, and your efforts will directly contribute to their welfare and our broader adoption, sterilisation, and education programmes. Volunteers aged 18 and above are welcome to join us for a minimum of 14 days, with up to four helpers accommodated at a time. If you are passionate about animals and ready to commit to their care, this is the opportunity to create lasting change while gaining hands-on experience in animal welfare.
Animal Sanctuary Greece: Tasks & Roles
Volunteers are essential to our daily operations and take on varied responsibilities to ensure the well-being of our animals and the maintenance of the sanctuary. Tasks include feeding, cleaning litter boxes, deep cleaning shared areas, and monitoring the health of the cats and dogs. Depending on your shift, you may also engage in creative activities like crafting toys for sale in our Etsy shop or capturing photos and videos to promote adoptions. Additional duties, such as gardening, painting, or assisting with minor repairs, may arise as needed. Volunteers typically work five hours a day for five days a week, with two days off. Flexibility is crucial, as work hours can vary depending on seasonal demands.
Animal Sanctuary Greece: Living & Getting There
Our sanctuary offers comfortable and welcoming accommodations, where you will share spaces with fellow volunteers. Rooms include single, bunk, and double bed options, and our communal areas feature a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, free Wi-Fi, and a balcony seating area. Please note that the cats roam freely, including in volunteer bedrooms. While we provide basic groceries for breakfast and lunch, dinner arrangements can be made during regular shopping trips organised by our managers.
The sanctuary is conveniently located 15 minutes from Athens International Airport and close to Koropi Train Station. Free transport is available for arrivals and departures during standard hours. For late-night or early-morning arrivals, volunteers will need to arrange and cover their taxi transportation, with assistance from our team. Grocery stores, local shops, and beautiful beaches are within walking or biking distance, allowing you to enjoy the surroundings during your free time.
Animal Sanctuary Greece: What Else
Before joining us, volunteers participate in an online chat to ensure compatibility with our sanctuary’s needs and expectations. We prioritise cleanliness and ask all volunteers to maintain high sanitary standards in shared and personal spaces. This ensures the safety and comfort of both our animals and our human team.
While we encourage exploring nearby tourist spots, our primary focus is on providing exceptional care to the animals. Volunteers should be prepared for hard work and committed to making a difference. If plans change, we require at least two weeks’ notice to ensure seamless operations. Your dedication and enthusiasm will help us create a brighter future for our furry residents while offering you an enriching and unforgettable experience.
