A mature couple who work in the city live on a small farm in Uruguay, which serves as their peaceful escape from the busy urban environment. They share their home with several horses and dogs, many of whom were rescued in poor condition and have since recovered through care and patience. The farm is a private home rather than a commercial business, offering a quiet lifestyle close to nature. They are looking for a reliable helper aged over 25 who enjoys animals and is interested in a longer-term stay.
Tasks & Roles
The main tasks involve caring for the animals, pet sitting and helping with the upkeep of the property. Garden work includes watering, pruning and weeding plants, as well as mowing the grass and maintaining the grounds. From time to time, there may also be small repairs to carry out, sheds to clean, compost to prepare, soil mixtures to make and firewood to saw or chop. The ideal helper is hardworking, responsible, adaptable and comfortable with a range of practical tasks.
Living & Getting There
The helper will have private accommodation in a converted shipping container, equipped with a gas stove, shower, refrigerator and other essentials. Groceries are provided, but helpers prepare their own meals. Free internet is available, although access is limited, and there is also a laundry room for personal use. The nearest international airport is Carrasco International Airport (MVD) in Montevideo. The ocean is around 15 kilometres away, and buses run several times a day.
What else
This farmstay is best suited to someone who enjoys a peaceful, independent lifestyle and spending time in nature. The setting is particularly suitable for introverts or those who appreciate a slower pace, as it may feel too quiet for people who prefer a highly social environment. The hosts can also offer guidance and support with the residency application process for helpers who wish to stay in Uruguay for longer.
