We are an Italian family with two daughters, aged 12 and 10, living in the picturesque village of Arquà Petrarca, nestled in the Euganean Hills near Padova. If you’re looking for an enriching au pair experience in Italy, we would love to welcome you into our home.
Both my wife and I lead active professional lives. I manage a family business specialising in the production of design furniture, while my wife, Reika, is a psychologist who also operates a yoga studio in the village. In our free time, we are passionate about outdoor activities like cycling and running, and we take pride in preparing wholesome, Italian meals using fresh, homemade ingredients.
Au Pair Italy: Tasks & Roles
We are looking for someone who loves spending time with children and has the patience to engage with them in English. Your primary role will be to encourage our daughters to learn the basics of the language through conversation and interactive activities. This involves dedicating around 2–3 hours in the afternoons after school, typically between 4 and 7 PM, though not every day due to their sports commitments. Additionally, we would appreciate some help on weekend mornings for a few hours.
Aside from time with the children, we ask for light household contributions, such as keeping your private space tidy and assisting with small chores, much like any other family member.
Au Pair Italy: Living & Getting There
Our home is a spacious, comfortable house featuring a large terrace overlooking the valley and a charming garden surrounded by hills. You will have a private room located on the same floor as our daughters, who each have their own rooms. This floor also includes a shared bathroom, used by the children and the au pair. For your convenience, the house is equipped with Wi-Fi and a TV.
Arquà Petrarca is a quaint village celebrated for its medieval charm and connection to the Italian poet Francesco Petrarca. Our home is a 15-minute walk from the village square and a 10-minute drive to the nearest train station in Monselice. From there, direct train services provide easy access to major cities like Venice, Padova, Verona, and Bologna. For arrivals, Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) and Bologna Airport (BLQ) are each about an hour’s drive away.
Au Pair Italy: What Else
Arquà Petrarca offers a serene and picturesque setting, ideal for unwinding or exploring the Veneto region. The surrounding hills are perfect for nature walks, while the village itself is steeped in history and culture. During your free time, you can visit iconic cities such as Florence or Milan, both of which are reachable by train in a couple of hours.
We have a friendly cat who mostly enjoys the outdoors, adding a touch of companionship to our home. Joining our family means not only helping our daughters grow but also experiencing authentic Italian life in a welcoming, supportive environment. If this opportunity interests you, we’d love to hear from you!
