Volunteer with Animals Thailand: Care for Rescue Dogs & Cats

Volunteer with an Animal Sanctuary in Koh Samui (Thailand)

Join our animal sanctuary on the tropical island of Koh Samui, Thailand, where you can volunteer with animals Thailand and care for rescue dogs and cats in need of love and attention. We welcome dedicated volunteers for medium to long-term stays, with a minimum commitment of one month.

This is an opportunity to immerse yourself in a truly special environment, surrounded by animals, nature, and the vibrant local culture. Volunteers must be at least 25 years old, and we can accommodate up to seven helpers at a time.

We are looking for individuals who are hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic, with a genuine love for animals. Working with animals requires flexibility, as unexpected situations and emergencies can arise. Volunteers need to be prepared for these challenges and available when needed, even during their free time. A strong sense of responsibility and commitment is essential, as last-minute cancellations or early departures can cause significant difficulties. If you’re travelling from afar, we recommend planning extra days before and after your stay for rest and sightseeing to ensure a smooth experience.

While we prioritise volunteers who can commit to 2–3 months, shorter durations may be considered based on your motivation, experience, and our immediate needs. Proficiency in spoken English, French, or Dutch is required, and familiarity with Thailand or Southeast Asia is an added advantage. We value common sense, a sense of adventure, and the ability to work independently as part of a team.

Volunteer with Animals Thailand: Tasks & Roles

Volunteers at the sanctuary follow a structured timetable, which may feel demanding at first but becomes manageable with time. Your daily responsibilities will include cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, tidying, doing laundry, and washing bowls. You’ll also prepare meals for the dogs and cats, including cooking fresh food every second day, and feeding the animals.

Walking the dogs is a key part of the day. They roam freely in groups through the jungle, providing a chance to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Socialising with the animals is equally important, whether it’s spending time with them or giving out bedtime treats. Volunteers also monitor the animals’ health, bathe those with skin conditions, and administer medication as needed.

Additional tasks may include assisting with grocery shopping every few weeks, minor repairs, gardening, or even managing social media. Flexibility and a willingness to pitch in where needed are highly valued.

Volunteer with Animals Thailand: Living & Getting There

Accommodation is provided and varies depending on the length of your stay. You’ll live in simple but comfortable Thai-style housing, sharing facilities such as the kitchen, bathroom, and living areas with other volunteers. The kitchen includes basic amenities like a hob and fridge, and bed linen is supplied, although you’ll need to bring your own towels.

The sanctuary is within walking or driving distance, and the beach is only a 10–15 minute stroll away. Volunteers are expected to contribute to keeping shared spaces clean and respect the local Thai lifestyle. If you prefer a higher standard of accommodation, you’re welcome to arrange it at your own expense, but please inform us in advance.

Drinking water is available at the sanctuary during working hours, but we cannot provide meals as the sanctuary relies entirely on donations. You’re welcome to use the kitchen for self-catering, and there are affordable local restaurants nearby.

Travelling to Koh Samui is straightforward. You can fly directly to Koh Samui airport or take a bus and ferry transfer from Surat Thani airport on the mainland. Detailed travel information will be provided upon confirmation of your stay.
