Since its founding in 2002, Home for the Angels has provided a compassionate and structured environment for vulnerable children, rooted in the spiritual traditions of Taoism and Confucianism. Those who choose to volunteer with children here become part of a community committed to nurturing young lives through education, moral guidance, and emotional support. With a focus on growth and wellbeing, the home ensures that every child receives formal schooling, three nourishing vegetarian meals each day, and the stability needed to flourish.
Volunteer with Children: Tasks & Roles
Each day at Home for the Angels begins and ends with prayer, reflecting the Confucian principles that guide the home. Volunteers are welcomed into this rhythm and invited to participate fully in daily life. Those who volunteer with children contribute in many meaningful ways, including practising English or Malay with the children, leading art and craft activities, facilitating outdoor games, sharing computer skills, or joining nature outings. While there is no requirement for professional qualifications, a willingness to engage with patience and kindness is essential. The sense of purpose found in helping the children grow is often deeply rewarding.
Volunteer with Children: Living & Getting There
Volunteers are accommodated on-site in gender-specific shared dormitories, with the option for private rooms during less busy periods or by prior request. A strictly vegetarian diet is observed, and all meals are provided as part of the daily routine. Whether arriving individually or as a couple, arrangements are made to ensure comfort and privacy where possible. The nearest airport is Kuala Lumpur International, and the closest city is Kajang, which offers underground rail links and serves as a convenient pick-up location. Transport assistance and arrival details are arranged in advance to ensure a warm welcome.
Volunteer with Children: What Else
This project has steadily expanded over the years, supported by the dedication of those who choose to volunteer with children and contribute to the community’s broader mission. In 2018, the vision grew further with the donation of a bungalow that now serves as a home for elderly residents. From its inception, the home has aspired to become more than an orphanage: a spiritual centre, a Confucian school, a sanctuary for the young, and a place of rest for the old. These dreams continue to unfold thanks to the grace, generosity, and commitment of volunteers, whose presence brings life to each part of this heartfelt journey.
