Katerina, the resident host, welcomes creative and independent volunteers who enjoy practical projects, learning new skills and helping to create something meaningful.
Two years ago, Katerina bought a forgotten cottage hidden among the trees and began restoring it into a cosy retreat surrounded by nature. What started as a simple renovation quickly became a long-term adventure involving construction, design, problem-solving and countless improvements. The cottage is already comfortable to live in, but there is still plenty of work to complete before it becomes the relaxing woodland getaway she has imagined.
The aim is to create a place where people can slow down, enjoy the outdoors and escape the pressure of everyday life. The future retreat will include spaces for relaxing by the fire, using a sauna, reading, playing games and spending quality time in peaceful surroundings. Volunteers will have the chance to contribute directly to the process of building a unique forest retreat while experiencing life close to nature.
Tasks & Roles
Volunteers help with a wide range of hands-on projects involved in developing the cottage and surrounding land. No professional building experience is required, but volunteers should enjoy practical work, be willing to learn and feel comfortable taking initiative.
Current tasks include completing the bathroom, installing the kitchen, creating custom furniture such as a sofa bed and storage units, and assisting with technical improvements including electricity, water and gas systems. Outdoor projects are also planned, including building a sauna, fire pit, hot tub, retaining wall and wooden steps leading to the cottage.
There are also opportunities for volunteers who prefer creative or digital work. Support is needed with creating a simple website for future bookings, developing an Instagram profile, taking photographs, producing short videos and helping document the transformation of the cottage into a welcoming woodland retreat.
Living & Getting There
Volunteers stay directly in the cottage and enjoy a peaceful forest setting away from busy city life. Accommodation includes a comfortable loft area with a large mattress suitable for two people, as well as a sofa downstairs. Clean bedding and the essentials needed for a pleasant stay are provided.
The kitchen is simple but functional, with basic supplies such as pasta, rice, oats, oil, spices, coffee, tea and drinking water available. Volunteers usually prepare their own meals and can enjoy the independence of settling into the cottage as their temporary home.
The nearest airport is Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG). Although the cottage is surrounded by nature, it is easy to reach, with the nearest train station only a short journey away and Prague city centre accessible in around 30 minutes. Katerina can provide directions using public transport and may sometimes be able to help with collection from the nearest station.
Volunteers arriving by car or van can park directly outside the cottage. A bicycle or scooter may also be available for local shopping trips and exploring the surrounding area.
