Nestled in one of the most lively neighbourhoods of Valparaíso, the hostel is designed to offer both volunteers and guests a welcoming and relaxing environment. While contributing to the hostel’s smooth running, volunteers will have plenty of free time to explore the city’s culture and beauty.
Volunteer in a Chile Hostel: Tasks & Roles
As a volunteer, you’ll be working between 20 to 25 hours per week, usually split into five-hour shifts. The role includes one morning shift and three to four afternoon or evening shifts. During the morning shift, you’ll assist the housekeeping team by removing dirty laundry, clearing rubbish from checked-out rooms, and tidying the common areas. The afternoon and evening shifts involve helping at reception with guest check-ins, responding to guest needs, and handling calls and digital messages. Volunteers will also assist with folding bed linen, preparing tasks for the next day’s breakfast, and ensuring the common areas are organised. At the end of the day, you’ll help dispose of rubbish and close the shift.
Volunteer in a Chile Hostel: Living & Getting There
Accommodation is provided in shared rooms with a maximum of one or two other volunteers, typically of the same gender to ensure a comfortable and peaceful environment. The hostel is located just a short bus ride from the city centre, or a 15-minute walk from the main square. Once in Cerro Alegre, you’ll find the hostel nestled among colourful streets, local cafes, and beautiful views, offering a perfect base to explore the charm of Valparaíso.
Volunteer in a Chile Hostel: What Else
Volunteers are encouraged to take full advantage of their time off to explore Valparaíso. The goal of volunteering at this hostel is not only to support the daily operations but also to immerse yourself in the culture and lifestyle of this beautiful city. By choosing to volunteer in a Chile hostel, you’ll have the chance to meet people from around the world, learn about Chilean culture, and experience a laid-back, community-oriented way of life.
