This International Solidarity Tourism Programme offers an exciting opportunity to volunteer in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean while becoming part of a welcoming international community. Participants work alongside local and international volunteers on projects that aim to create a positive social impact while discovering the culture, traditions and natural beauty of the French Caribbean.
The programme welcomes people from a wide range of backgrounds. Previous volunteering experience is not essential, as motivation, respect, curiosity and a willingness to contribute are valued most. It can suit people taking a gap year, working remotely, studying, developing personal projects or simply looking for a more meaningful way to experience Guadeloupe.
Rather than experiencing the island solely as a tourist, volunteers have the opportunity to become involved in local community life, meet people from around the world, practise languages and develop new personal and professional skills.
Tasks & Roles
Volunteers can choose from a range of activities depending on their interests, abilities and the needs of current projects. One area involves language education and youth activities, where participants can support English and Spanish conversation sessions, educational games, cultural activities and workshops for children, teenagers and adults. No teaching qualification is required, as enthusiasm and a willingness to communicate are more important.
Those interested in creative activities can contribute to arts, culture and community projects. Depending on their skills, volunteers may become involved in music, dance, theatre, fashion, photography, creative workshops, festivals or other community events. Their ideas and creativity can help bring people together and encourage young people to express themselves.
There are also opportunities to support social impact projects through event organisation, communication, social media, logistics, project coordination and community outreach. This can be particularly suitable for people who enjoy teamwork, taking initiative and helping turn ideas into practical projects.
Activities vary throughout the programme, so no two weeks are necessarily the same. Volunteers generally contribute for only a few hours each day, allowing plenty of time for personal activities, cultural experiences and exploring Guadeloupe.
Living & Getting There
Volunteers stay in a spacious Caribbean house surrounded by a large tropical garden. The accommodation provides a relaxed communal environment where participants can unwind, enjoy the outdoor areas and spend time with fellow volunteers.
Accommodation is provided in shared twin rooms, with two people sharing each room. Each volunteer has their own single bed and personal storage, while bathrooms and communal living areas are shared. Living alongside people from different countries creates plenty of opportunities for cultural exchange and new friendships.
The closest airport is Pointe-à-Pitre International Airport (PTP), located around 15 minutes from the volunteer accommodation. A member of the team will meet participants at the airport and take them to their new home.
During the first week, volunteers receive an introduction to the association, their activities and the local area. They are also given practical information about transport, safety, house rules and everyday life in Guadeloupe, helping them settle into the programme with confidence.
What else
The programme is designed to provide a healthy balance between volunteering, free time and discovering the island. Outside their activities, volunteers can explore tropical beaches, waterfalls, rainforests and volcanic landscapes. They can also experience Creole food, music, traditions and local events while improving their language skills in an international setting.
