Ranch Working Holiday in Argentina with Polo & Horses

Experience a Working Holiday on a Ranch (Argentina)

A Ranch Working holiday in Argentina offers an unforgettable opportunity to experience traditional Argentine countryside life while becoming part of a working polo club and cattle ranch in the heart of the Pampas. With around 70 horses and 2,000 cattle, this experience allows helpers to discover the world of polo, learn about ranch life and immerse themselves in the culture of Argentina.

The ranch welcomes a mix of international students and HelpStayers, creating a friendly community where guests can exchange cultures, practise languages and build lasting friendships. Helpers will have the chance to experience the lifestyle of Argentine cowboys, known locally as gauchos, while learning about horses and the sport of polo.

Tasks & Roles

During this Ranch Working holiday in Argentina, helpers will support the daily care of horses and assist with the activities required to run the polo club. Each volunteer is assigned horses to look after throughout their stay, including feeding, grooming, exercising and preparing them for riding and polo sessions.

The main role involves caring for polo horses, practising stick and ball, preparing horses and equipment for chukkas, and cleaning tack and polo gear after games. Helpers may also assist with general ranch tasks when required, helping to maintain the property and support the daily operations of the club.

Those interested in polo can learn directly from professional players and experienced grooms through training sessions, polo lectures, rules clinics and instructional materials. They will gain insight into how polo ponies are trained and developed, with opportunities to ride, practise and occasionally join matches when teams need extra players. While this is not a full-time polo playing position, helpers will be given as many opportunities as possible to participate in the sport.

Living & Getting There

As part of this Ranch Working holiday in Argentina, helpers stay on-site in shared accommodation with other student players, with shared bathroom facilities available. Living directly on the ranch means there is no need for daily transport, as the stables and facilities are within walking or riding distance.

Accommodation includes meals, allowing helpers to focus on their experience without needing to shop or prepare food. They are also welcome to explore local dining options or cook occasionally if they wish.

The nearest airport is Ezeiza Airport (EZE), also known as Buenos Aires International Airport. Airport transfers are included, with the ranch team arranging collection on arrival and transport directly to the property. Alternatively, helpers can organise their own taxi transfer if preferred.

What else

A Ranch Working holiday in Argentina provides more than just an opportunity to work with horses; it is a chance to experience the traditions, landscapes and social life of rural Argentina. During free time, helpers can visit nearby polo clubs, watch professional matches, attend local rodeos and explore polo shops in the Pilar area.

The region is also recognised as a centre for horseball, offering another way to discover Argentina’s passion for equestrian sports. With its combination of horse care, polo training, cultural exchange and ranch living, this experience is ideal for anyone looking to develop new skills while enjoying an authentic Argentine adventure.
