Cofradía’s Bilingual School (CBS), located in Cofradía, Cortés, Honduras, offers a unique opportunity for those looking to teach in Honduras. The school provides a high-quality bilingual education to over 300 students from kindergarten through to grade 11, creating an invaluable alternative to the public school system. With the support of international volunteers and locally recruited teachers, CBS immerses students in both English and Spanish, helping them develop essential skills for a brighter future. This programme not only gives students a chance to master English but also opens doors to greater opportunities for those from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
Teach in Honduras: Tasks & Roles
We are currently inviting dedicated individuals to join us as volunteer English teachers for the 2025–2026 academic year, which spans from August to June. Volunteers play an essential role in daily classroom activities, supporting and leading lessons entirely in English. There is no requirement to speak Spanish, as all classes under the volunteer programme are conducted in English. While having teaching experience is certainly helpful, it is not a prerequisite. What matters most is a willingness to learn, a strong sense of responsibility, and a genuine passion for working with young people. Volunteers are placed across various age groups, from kindergarten children aged four to five, through to older students in grade 11. A typical school day runs from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., including free periods to support lesson preparation and rest.
Teach in Honduras: Living & Getting There
Volunteers are accommodated in a fully furnished volunteer house located within the community. Shared rooms, comfortable living spaces, and sweeping views of the surrounding mountains offer a peaceful and sociable environment. Wi-Fi is available, and the outdoor area includes hammocks perfect for relaxing after a school day. Breakfast and lunch are provided on school days, and groceries are stocked so volunteers can prepare their own meals during evenings and weekends. Transport from the nearest airport, Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (SAP) in San Pedro Sula, is arranged at no cost. Flights and any necessary travel insurance are to be arranged by the volunteer. Entry into Honduras is straightforward, with tourist visas issued free upon arrival. Additionally, basic medical costs are covered for the duration of your stay with us.
Teach in Honduras: What Else
Joining CBS as a volunteer means becoming part of a close-knit community. Our team is made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds, all working together toward a shared vision of education and opportunity. Volunteers must be aged 18 or over, with no upper age limit, and we welcome people of all genders and backgrounds, whether solo travellers or couples. Holidays built into the school calendar allow time for travel and exploration across Central America, offering the chance to discover the rich culture and natural beauty of the region. Though the experience can be demanding, it is immensely rewarding. Volunteers form lasting connections with students, fellow teachers, and the broader community, and leave with strengthened confidence, new perspectives, and a deep sense of purpose.
