Tumunu Experience

The Tumunu Experience is a cultural tourism attraction which carries out cultural tours. Our tours include learning how to cook food in a umu (underground oven), learning all about the uses of coconuts & a tour of our plantation & marae (sacred meeting place). Visitors get the opportunity to sample our local homebrew which is a tradition from the island of Atiu. Our tours are held 3 times a week in our premises. We also operate Coconuts bar & eatery on site which is open in the evenings & serves a great food menu & drinks in a very local atmosphere. We also manage a small number of holiday homes & a small produce/ vegetable farm.

Help save the endangered Skyrian horse

We are a small non-profit organisation based on the breeding of the endangered (300 worldwide) small-sized Skyrian horse, one of the rarest and most ancient breed of horse in the world. As we receive no help whatsoever from the Greek State or the EU, the whole conservation of the breed depends upon our volunteers' and our own work! The main goal of the organisation is the controlled breeding of the horses so as to avoid in-breeding which within such a small population could have dramatic consequences. The breed has also been the object of several studies in Greece and abroad, particularly to examinate its unique DNA and try to understand where it comes from and why it is so different from other horse breeds on the planet. The farm was established in autumn 2014. Cultivated area is 6 ha and 0,8 ha greenhouse area under organic conditions (demeter association). In spring 2015 we started our CSA (community supported agriculture) and delivered our first vegetables in june the same year. We grow more than 100 different vegetables and herbs to give our costumers a wide range of products year round. At the moment we try to establish a Seed Cooperation with some other nearby farmers.
