Mountain Conservation Forest/Farm with Pedigree Clydesdale/Shire Horses.

  • Marker details
  • DescriptionThis is a very special remote place in the Telemark mountains of Southern Norge. Eagles live up behind the house and Moose are often in the surrounding forest and fields. The night skies are full of stars and it's a nice area to relax listening to the sounds of nature.

This is a manual run place (we breed and train to work rare pedigree Shire/Clydesdale horses) so wheelbarrows are often used to move materials some distance on reasonable level ground so people need to have good levels of stamina and be able to undertake tasks within a reasonable time. Various special hand tools are used and we explain safe operation/maintenance to avoid accidents.

Summertime temperatures can be in the +30C's. Wintertime temperatures in the -30C's. April can still be much snow. Vital to have safe toe cap/puncture resistant sole boots with a good grip, gloves, warm hat/warm clothes, SNOW/WATERPROOF Jacket and Trousers.

  • Additional info
  • (New to Hippohelp but have "Hosted" numerous people from around the world on WWOOF Norge should one wish to read some "Reviews").

We are looking for honest, reliable, practical, respectable, sociable, flexible, interesting, happy people with a good positive attitude and with a genuine wish to help while gaining new rural experiences in the special natural environment of the central southern Norwegian mountains. (You might even see an Elg/Moose swimming across the lake with it's twin calves)

This place is a full time "Green" Award Winning Agricultural/Forestry (Landsbruk/Skogbruk) business with over 30 years experience in England and are starting a new Sustainable Tourism business so we will be outside most of the time in all weathers. (with drinks/toilet/lunch breaks sometimes cooking on a wood fire beside the lake) Sundays and all evenings are free leisure time to explore/relax and welcome to take the dog/cat on a long walk. Free WIFI available but bad mobile/radio signals here so we have no TV.

Nearest seaports to Europe are Kristiansand/Langesund and both Colorline/Fjordline ferries arrive from Hirtshals in Denmark. Nearest airport is Sandefjord Torp and flights from Europe are around 1.30hrs with good bus connections.

STRICT NO SMOKING!! (including all electronic devices) Health/Safety/Insurance reasons.

All interested persons will need to confirm the reasons to visit here, the skills wanting to learn, the contribution that can be given and have a good informative profile with a photograph we can read/view to avoid possible misunderstandings and to RESPOND to messages ASAP (within 48hrs) so we can plan schedules and booking additional people without wasting time. It's possible to host two people at a time from all around the world. (We are political/religious NEUTRAL!)

HIPPO HELP suggest all visitors must have current travel insurance (in case of sickness/accident) to cover the period at the Host's places. Please use the word "FRIVILLIG" in the initial contact message so we know people have read and understood this long description.

    Tusen Takk.
