Kashtin's Misadventures

  • Marker details
  • DescriptionExperience the mountains and wilderness of Yukon, even parts of Alaska!! yukonlodge@gmail.com

From the Midnight Sun in summer to Northern Lights in winter.

Share with me living a rustic wilderness life away from the digital speed of today and if you wish, you can learn the Japanese practice of Shinrin-Yoku. Researchers have found that people who spend time in forests have lower heart rates, lower blood pressure and lower concentration of stress hormones (especially if you shut off your cell phone!)

We breath fresh air and the aromas of the trees, we do wilderness activities and occasionally a roadtrip. You visit my home as a friend and we share Northern living as a group, so no Work Visa is required!

The house is located in a wilderness residential community on a large lake with cellular service and WiFi. But we can shut off cell phones and laptops at home, we can use oil lamps for light and wood stove for heat and we can play board games at the kitchen table, or we can watch a DVD movie on a flat screen TV!!

How better to connect with nature than a walk through the forest, swim in the nearby wilderness lakes or a dip in natural hot springs? Lakes are summer only, but there are a few natural hot and warm springs in the area. Some are known, some are secret. ;)

Mix all this this with activities that show the best of Yukon life. Campfires, canoeing, biking, camping and snowshoeing. This is a personal stay where we all share the adventure of wilderness living and help each other or challenge ourselves. “Life truly begins outside our comfort zone.”

I have been hosting 11 years now and nearing retirement, so I need help with creating new hosting ideas, adventures, webpages and Introduction Emails. Skills in writing, photographing and social media are helpful, but just being in a photograph is helpful too. :)

I do not consider myself old, but I am slowing down and forgetting things, so I prefer those guests who have some empathy and understanding. Guests who could become lifelong friends.

As with any volunteer project, accommodation and food are included in exchange for doing everyday needed chores. All adventures, activities and day trips are included too. We can visit and explore many local places, but also Atlin, Haines Junction, Kluane National Park and also Skagway and Haines Alaska when the border opens. There is only a natural warm springs nearby, but we can do a longer weekend roadtrip to some secret natural hot springs on the bank of a large river. You have multiple opportunities every week to explore Whitehorse and do grocery shopping with my vehicle.

  • Additional info
  • I want to give you as much information as possible so you can make a well informed decision. I do not want an unhappy guest because they expected something different. Life here is different, an adventure!
