    Our Volunteer Centre is based in Sint Maarten Dutch West Indies which goes by the name Vicky’s Keys – www.vickyskeys.com. Managed by volunteers this location accommodates volunteers from abroad who work together with local based volunteers at several organized Eco Projects. Besides being a Volunteer Center this location functions as a Hostel – a low budget lodging facility – for tourists.
    We have vacant Volunteer positions for which we seek reliable candidates who are willing to become part of something beautiful. This is done by investing time and making an effort in helping us to create sustainable Eco Projects of which in turn can be enjoyed by us all in the near future.

    The Eco projects we are preparing / have started are:
    2. Agriculture:
    a. Reinstating an old berry vine.
    b. Creating community gardens/ allotments.
    c. Creating hurricane challenged agriculture such as permaculture, aquaponics and hydroponics.

    3. Eco Neighbourhood development:
    a. Landscaping and putting renewable facility systems in place for biogas, waste and waste-water management, solar system with battery bank, rainwater harvesting etc.
    b. Construction of self-sufficient and sustainable homes made out of modified shipping containers.
    c. Further development of The Keys Market location.

    • Info about the volunteering activities (what kind of activities will the volunteers do)?
    1. landscaping activities and perma-cultured gardens maintenance at the Volunteer Center premises,
    2. maintenance of the Aquaponic system and cultivating fish, fruit, herbs and veggies at the Volunteer Center premises,
    3. landscaping and tillage activities at the Community Gardens division,
    4. assist with constructing exterior designs by recycling / re-purposing materials,
    5. landscaping activities at The Keys Market division,
    6. assist with marketing activities for the Community Gardens and The Keys Market.
    7. assist with organizing The Keys Market events.
    8. taking care of holiday guests when booked for the hostel: a) reservation management, check-in and check-out of guests, b) preparing breakfast for guests, c) housekeeping, d) cooking / bartending (e.g. happy hour, bbq, pick-nick events)

  • Hours per day Volunteers work in shifts between 6.30am – 10.30pm. A workday consist out of 6 to 7 hours per day.
  • Work requirements: You come for a MINIMUM of 2 months and a MAXIMUM of 12 months (subject to the Volunteer Centre’s approval).
    You are between the ages of 18 and 40 years.
    You are in good mental and physical health.
    You speak a reasonable level of English.

  • Accommodation: Vicky’s Keys premises is approximately 1.400m2 / 15.000 square feet. The concept is “Stay among the locals” which is popular among the backpackers market. Yet we are the only one on St. Maarten to anticipate those who would like to experience staying among the locals but with an Eco twist to it.
    The premises has several gardens cultivated with herbs, vegetables, fruit and fish (Aquaponicssystem). Besides the usual luxury amenities guests have the choice to experience pure Caribbean self-sufficient living when staying at our hostel department. On the premises you will find a Café, Terrace (ground and roof) with barbecue area, Gardens, 3 Mixed Dormitories and 2 Private Dorm Rooms and two Luxury Studios. Volunteers will sleep at our Staff dormitories which are equipped with a shared kitchenette and bathroom.

  • Volunteer Registration Application Fee of US$ 40 to apply volunteer permission documents at the Civil Registry. After 4 months this fee is required for extending stay request.
    Deposit- Upon arrival, the volunteers are asked to leave a deposit upon check in at the Volunteer Centre (ANG 180 / US $100 / Euro 100) as security for facility use.. Alcoholic beverages at own expense.
