  • Type of work We are looking for volunteers to support our schools around Ilboru. In primary schools, the focus lies on improving the English skills of young children from the age of 3 to 13, so that they can progress on to secondary school. Children in primary schools usually speak very little English, so volunteers need to be able to connect with them using simple teaching methods.

Along teaching English, volunteers in primary schools can implement other activities into the daily timetable to engage the young minds in creative ways through role-playing, arts and crafts or taking part in stimulating learning games.
In secondary schools, in addition to improving the standard of spoken and written English, the focus for the pupils aged between 13 and 17, is to deepen their knowledge on subjects like mathematics, geography, history, science, computer skills, life skills and so on.

There are also opportunities for volunteers in both primary and secondary schools to run after-school sporting activities, as well as getting involved in wider community development program.

  • Hours per day Volunteers typically teach or assist a teacher with classes from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm five days per week. Lunch is provided either by the school or the host family. The rest of the day is free for the volunteer to explore our beautiful region.
