Help/ Support to educate our children for their better future

  • DescriptionOur community is situated in South Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. Our main goals is to motivate and educate children from low income families to have equal opportunities of getting better education for their future lives

    Dar es salaam is the biggest city in Tanzania with the population about 5.5million people . Children and youth are approximately 50% of the population

    In most local families there are many children and youth who have no motivation to go to school even their parents have no motivation to take them to school, therefore you will see many children and youth in the street loosing opportunity of get education

    One of the main tool is to give them another perspective from volunteers who will help to bring motivation in education to our communty and boost up the influence of education

    Through this project you will not only have opportunity to volunteer but also to experience our local life, travel around Dar es salaam by using local transport, browser markets to find spices and ingredients for cooking local food, enjoying exercise and football at the community ground , you can also get chance to see our tradition marriage and ceremony

    All this are great way to learn and practice Swahili language and engage with local

    In the morning from 9.00am to 12 afternoom

    In the evening from 4:pm to 6.00pm

    Saturday and Sunday is free time to enjoy different places in Dar es salaam
  • Work requirements: Our daily schedule

    In the morning from 9:00 am to 12:30 afternoon our volunteer will be:

    Teaching children among our three local nursery schools (age 4 to 6 years old). Our volunteers will assist our local teachers to instruct children , English language, mathematics, writing,reading, arts , sport and games

    In the evening from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm:

    About 50 children and young people attend our school that operates in a house with two spaces for learning
    We have classes at the evening from 4 pm to 6 pm. Our children are from low-income families so it is a public education centre .

    Our volunteers will help to teach English language, Mathematics, Arts, Science, Geography,Biology, Writing and reading (for the small children) Sports and games (on Friday evening), Singing and dancing (after evening class)

    The children age are from 4 to 18 years old so they are in different levels. For the volunteers they have to check their previous work and the continue to where they ended

    We also need help if you have possibility to bring study material for children such as: pencils, pens, colors, markers, notebooks exercise books and second hands clothes and shoes

    In addition, you can support us in:
    Creating a new website and our social media accounts needs constantly improvement, so we need volunteers passionate about web design, writing and photography to help us to improve our online profile.

  • Accommodation: Our volunteers stay in our volunteer house this has three private room and two shared rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, the class area for the children and a common area. You will feel safe since the area is very quiet, in a friendly community and the house has an exterior door.

    Nearby you find small shops, women selling traditional delicacies, vegetables and sweet fruits.
    The local bus station is about 5 minutes walk from our house. The bus is very economical and allows you to comfortably reach the city center. Motorcycles, Tuk-tuk, taxis and Uber are also available.

    The contribution for accommodation is (52 Us dollars) per week and this includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, limited Internet (f you use more Internet you can buy a local simcard where and purchase data as much as you need) and contributes to household expenses (electricity, gas and water).

    Bedding is provided, but bring your own towel and toiletries.

    Smoking is allowed but only outside.

    You will feel free and safe in our house of volunteers and in our neighborhood.
